It's Okay to Be the Boss 10 Part Video Training Program

Welcome! Thank you for investing your time and resources in this learning program, which is based on the best-selling book and seminar IT’S OKAY TO BE THE BOSS developed and delivered by Bruce Tulgan.

At the core of this program are 49 video clips and 49 workbooks. Each video is 1-5 minutes in length and features Bruce Tulgan talking about different themes within each learning lesson.

The program consists of ten parts. Each of the parts contains:
- a pre-reading (with content from the corresponding book chapter) and summary
- a grouping of video clips
- and for each video clip, a corresponding workbook containing the text of the video clip, a key points summary, brainstorming questions, and exercises & applications

The first part is an introduction that focuses on the problem of undermanagement and argues for strong highly-engaged management as the solution.

The eight parts in the middle are focused on teaching a clear step-by-step guide back to the basics of strong highly-engaged management:
- Part 2. Get in the habit of managing every day. Best practices for conducting regular one-on-ones with direct reports and others.
- Part 3. Learn to talk like a performance coach. Best practices for communicating clearly and effectively.
- Part 4. Take it one person at a time. Best practices to help managers work effectively with each of their direct reports based on the particular strengths and weaknesses of those individuals.
- Part 5. Make accountability a real process. Best practices for working through or around obstacles to holding employees accountable.
- Part 6. Tell people what to do and how to do it. Best practices for making expectations clear.
- Part 7. Track performance every step of the way. Best practices to help managers monitor, measure, and document employee performance.
- Part 8. Solve small problems before they turn into big problems. The focus here is two-fold: First, best practices for managers to help employees solve problems in productivity, quality, and behavior. Second, best practices for managers to deal with performance problems that persist.
- Part 9. Do more for some people and less for others. Best practices to help managers tie rewards to performance; short-term and long, financial and non-financial.

The last part is a "getting started" section focusing on getting participants ready to start putting into practice all that they have learned in the program.

Also included in the program are answers to the 39 most frequently asked questions by managers who have participated in a live, on-site seminar led by Bruce.
